This page explains how Japanese Festival (japanesefestival.net) earns revenue and how that affects what you read on the site. We believe transparency is the foundation of a useful travel guide.

How We Make Money
Japanese Festival is a free travel guide. We do not charge readers, and we do not run paid newsletters or members-only content. Two revenue streams keep the site running:
- Affiliate commissions — When you click an affiliate link on this site and book a tour, hotel, or service, the partner pays us a small commission. You pay nothing extra. The commission comes out of the partner’s marketing budget.
- Display advertising — Some pages show banner ads served by Google AdSense. We do not control which specific ads appear.
Our Affiliate Partners
We take part in, or have applied to, the following affiliate programs:
- Tours, activities and tickets: Klook, Viator, GetYourGuide
- Hotels and accommodation: Booking.com
- Travel insurance: EKTA
- Japanese crafts and tableware: Musubi Kiln, through the Awin network
- Affiliate networks: Travelpayouts, which sits behind most of our hotel, tour and ticket links; Awin; and Impact.com. Programs that run on Impact.com may include hotel brands such as Marriott Bonvoy — we have applied to that network, and we publish a link to a program only once it has been approved.
- Display advertising: Google AdSense
Some of the programs listed above are still awaiting approval. Until a program is approved, the buttons that would point to it send you to one of our own articles instead, so you never land on a broken or untracked page.
We may add or remove partners over time. This list is updated when that happens, and the matching list in our Privacy Policy is kept in step with it.
How Our Affiliate Links Work
Every affiliate button and link on this site points first to an address on our own domain beginning with /go/, which then forwards you to the partner. We do it this way so that a change of partner only has to be made in one place, and so that we can see which recommendations readers actually use.
When a /go/ link is used, our server writes one line to a log file: the time of the click, which link was used, which article the click came from, and whether the request looked like an automated crawler rather than a person. That log contains no IP address, no cookie value, and nothing else that identifies you. The partner you land on may set its own cookie, on its own site, so that the referral can be credited to us. That is described in our Privacy Policy.
Our Editorial Promise
Affiliate revenue does not buy a place on Japanese Festival. We commit to the following:
- Personal experience or thorough research — We only recommend services we have used ourselves or that we have researched against multiple independent sources.
- Honest opinions — If a hotel disappointed us, we say so. If a tour is overpriced for what it delivers, we say that too.
- No pay-for-coverage — We do not accept payment in exchange for positive reviews, ranking, or inclusion in articles.
- Transparent labeling — Articles that contain affiliate links carry a short disclosure line so you know before you click.
Your Choices
You are never required to use our affiliate links. You can:
- Search the same hotel or tour directly at the partner’s website
- Use a different booking site if you prefer
- Block tracking cookies in your browser
